(KAIR)--An Atchison man who allegedly took part in multiple vehicle thefts was arrested in Leavenworth Tuesday afternoon.
According to Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson, 19-year-old Trayvond Walker was stopped by Leavenworth police shortly after 4:00 in a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Leavenworth. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that a billfold from a purse that had been reported stolen from the Atchison Walmart was in Walker's possession.
Walker, along with 19-year-old Laporshia (Lah-porsh-ah) Seymore allegedly drove the stolen vehicle to Atchison earlier in the day, took the purse, and used a debit card found inside at several local convenience stores before driving back to Leavenworth and using the card several more times there.
When Leavenworth officials contacted The Atchison Police Department regarding the case, it was discovered that Walker had allegedly taken part in three recent Atchison vehicle thefts.
A 2004 Dodge Intrepid had been taken on February 14th, a 2000 Dodge Caravan was taken on June 13th, and a 2002 Jeep Liberty had been taken on June 24th. All three vehicles had their steering columns manipulated to allow them to be driven, and each was recovered soon after it was taken.
Walker is facing multiple vehicle thefts charges, as well as another charge of theft connected to the stolen purse.
Both Walker and Seymour are facing charges of criminal use of a financial card and computer crime in Atchison as well as Leavenworth.
Both are being held in the Leavenworth County Jail and will be transported to Atchison to face charges once the charges in Leavenworth are taken care of.
