Graffiti Written on Windows of 99 Vehicles in Hiawatha
07/08/2014

(KNZA)--Two suspects are identified, but criminal charges will not be filed, after the two used window chalk to write on the windows of ninety-nine vehicles in the city of Hiawatha during the July 4th holiday.

Police Chief John Defore says the incidents occurred Thursday night and early Friday morning in the main part of the city.

Defore says the two suspects confessed to the incidents. However, he says City Attorney Don Cashman advised him that it wasn't a criminal act because it didn't meet the criteria of criminal damage to property. Defore says no damage was done to the vehicles because the window chalk is easily washed away.

At the suggestion of Cashman, Defore says the victims will be contacted and the  suspects will be asked to clean the vehicle windows off.
