3 County Road Project Set To Start

(KMZA)--A resurfacing project, affecting three local counties, is set to start next week; however, the Kansas Department of Transportation is uncertain of a specific start date for the work, which will encompass 33 ½ miles on K-9 in Marshall, Nemaha and Jackson Counties.

According to KDOT, the work will begin sometime Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, and will take place on K-9 from the K-87 junction in Marshall County through Nemaha County to the U.S. 75 junction in Jackson County.

Once the project begins, eastbound and westbound K-9 will be reduced to one lane, for both directions, from the K-63 junction westward to the K-87 junction, then back east in approximately three-mile intervals. Work will take place during weekday daylight hours with some occasional Saturday work possible.

Drivers should expect delays up to 15 minutes, with traffic to be directed by a pilot car and flagger. Alternate routes should be taken if possible.

The project is expected to wrap up by mid September if weather allows.

Bettis Asphalt, of Topeka, is the primary contractor on the 4-million dollar resurfacing project.
