(KLZA)-- It will be a busy time for a number of area communities in Southeast Nebraska and Northwest Missouri this week due to the Independence Day holiday and local celebrations.
In Falls City the fireworks display presented by Lem’s Northvue Café and the sponsors will be Thursday night at dusk on the north edge of Falls City.
The annual Mound City 4th of July celebration begins Thursday, July 3rd.
The Baby Show begins at 4 p-m at the State Theater followed by the Patriotic Opening at 7 p-m at the State Theater sponsored by American Legion Post #121.
Other events that evening include the crowning of a king and queen, recognition of war veterans and the crowning of the 4th of July Queen.
This year the fireworks display will be on Thursday evening at dusk at the Mound City Golf Course.
Events on Friday the 4th of July in Mound City begin with the annual Red Rock Fun Run at 8 a-m;
A parade takes place on Main Street at 10 a-m with a theme of “Mound City, A Slice of American Pie.”
Griffith Park will be the host site for the Lions Club barbecue dinner and ice cream social at 11:30 a-m. The community band concert in the park starts at 1 p-m. there will be a pet show at 2 p-m a penny toss at the swimming pool at 3 p-m and a ping pong ball drop at 4 p-m at the football field.
The 4th of July means big doin’s in Humboldt, Nebraska. The annual Independence Day Celebration ill include a mud volleyball tournament and softball tournament.
From 2 – 6 p-m there will be a car show; Fire truck rides will take place starting at 3 p-m.
The children’s games begin at 4 p-m.
Starting at 5 p-m the annual Pork barbecue meal will be served at the Ag-Building. The Happy Czecks will present musical entertainment and at Dusk one of the largest fireworks displays in the area will be on display.
The Auburn Avenue of Flags will displayed at Legion Memorial Park on the 4th of July.
Volunteers are asked to help set up the flags at 7 a-m and remove them starting at 4 p-m.
