(KMZA)--The Nemaha County ( KS) Commission has approved the purchase a public notification system that will allow county residents to receive notifications from the county via text or email.
Sheriff Rich Vernon and sheriff’s office secretary Amy Lierz on Monday presented the Commission with a proposal for a public notification system through Nixle. The cost for the system is $400 for the initial setup and $3,325 per year.
Vernon said county residents interested in receiving announcements from the county will be able to sign up at no cost for the system on the county’s Web site.
It will allow residents to receive notifications on such things as road closures and severe weather bulletins.
In other business, the commission received two additional 2015 budget requests.
Nemaha County Community Health Services Administrator Jane Sunderland presented a budget request for $55,240, which is a 31-hundred dollar increase over what was approved for this year. Sunderland says the increase is for benefits to better retain staffing.
And Nemaha County Training Center Director Alice Lackey presented a budget request for $100,000, which is a $10,000 increase from what was approved for their 2014 budget.
The Commission will take the budget requests into consideration when working on the 2015 county budget.
