(KAIR)--Kansas Governor Sam Brownback will see firsthand how children are keeping up on their reading skills over the summer.
Brownback will be visiting Henry Leavenworth Elementary School Tuesday morning at 11:00 for Summer Reading Matters, a program designed to help students keep up with their reading skills over the summer break, so they do not fall behind when school starts again in the fall.
Brownback says that it is well known that practicing reading skills is key to ensuring that children succeed in school.
The Kansas Department for Children and Families and the State Library of Kansas are also teaming up to host similar events throughout the state on the same day, to call attention to the importance of summer reading.
These local events will be held in Atchison at the Atchison Public Library at 6:00PM, in Holton, at the Beck-Bookman Library at 1:30PM, and in Leavenworth at the Leavenworth Public Library at 10:00AM and 4:00PM.
