(KNZA)--The Hiawatha Police Department is investigating several vehicle burglaries and the theft of a vehicle.
Police Chief John Defore says the incidents happened sometime late Thursday night or early Friday morning within a six block area in the eastern portion of town.
A Chevy Silverado pickup was stolen from the 100 Block of Oregon Street. In addition, several vehicles were burglarized and items taken.
Defore says the pickup was recovered later Friday in the Hiawatha Cemetery. He said it had been damaged.
He says all the vehicles targeted were unlocked and the keys had been left in the pickup.
Defore is urging residents to lock their vehicles and to keep items out of plain site. In addition, he urging residents to report any suspicious individuals or activity to the police department. He says callers can remain anonymous.
