(KLZA)-- It was an expensive night for the Auburn School Board when they met at the Julian Community Building this week.
Board members approved the purchase of technology items, text books and approved a change order for the High School gymnasium renovation project.
Just over $87,000 was spent on 50 laptop computers with one cart going to Calvert Elementary and one to the Middle School / High School building. A Distance Learning cart was also purchased for the Middle School / High School.
Even with all the computers in schools now. You still need books. Several series of new textbooks were also approved for purchase. Language Arts textbooks were purchased for grades 6 – 12; Freshman Health textbooks, Calculus textbooks, Penmanship texts for grades Kindergarten – 3rd and textbooks for the new Agriculture program were bought.
The competition gymnasium renovation at the Middle School / High School in Auburn is well underway. As feared by the experts, they found trouble with the sub-floor. Once the gym floor was removed, it was discovered the runners were warped and there were several ripples in the sub-floor. A company will pour out a special mixture to level the sub-floor so the new gym floor can be put down. The added cost was $17,325.
Superintendent Kevin Reiman says this should not affect the project being completed in time for the start of school in August.
Also approved was the expenditure of just under $9,000 for a public address system for the Calvert Elementary School gymnasium.
