(KTNC)--The Furnas Arboretum in Brownville has a full day of activities planned Saturday.
Master gardener Jane Andrew will lead an informal tour of the arboretum and nature trail, starting from the Schoolhouse Art Gallery at 10:00 a.m.
A box lunch auction – similar to the one in the musical “Oklahoma” – will be held near the gallery at 11:30. The Brownville Fine Arts Association will prepare the lunches and proceeds will pay for informational signposts.
From 1:00 till 2:00 p.m., Graham Herbst of the Nebraska Forest Service will lead a tour of trees along Main Street, starting at the Missouri River and ending at the Whiskey Run Creek Winery.
Jane Andrew will then conduct informal tours of significant trees in Brownville from 2:00 till 4:00 p.m. The trees include some of the oldest or largest red elm, osage orange and pecan trees in the state.
The Furnas Arboretum in an affiliate site of the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum. It contains more than 100 species of trees and shrubs, and a variety of perennials.
