(KAIR)--A 29-year-old man is dead following a single vehicle motorcycle crash in Atchison County Thursday, but the time of the fatal wreck is not yet determined.
Sheriff Jack Laurie identifies the victim as Leavenworth resident Leonard Wilkins.
Laurie says it appears Wilkins was traveling southwest on Thomas Road when he hit a loose patch of gravel, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle and exit the road on the right side, before coming to a rest in a ditch.
There were no witnesses to the wreck, and Wilkins was not discovered until a passerby spotted the motorcycle with Wilkins lying nearby shortly before 5:00 Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Thomas and 210th Road. It is unknown how long he had been there before he was discovered, but Laurie says that signs indicate that he had been there for an extended period of time.
