(KAIR)--(KAIR)-- Numerous motorists hit the road for the Memorial Day Weekend, and for the most part, most drove safely. That's according to a report released by the Kansas Highway Patrol Thursday.
The Patrol worked only one fatal wreck, occurring in Leavenworth County, which has been determined to have been caused by alcohol. In total, the Patrol made 34 DUI arrests, which is slightly higher than the 30 made during the Memorial Day weekend last year. Last year, three DUI related fatalities occurred on Kansas roadways.
Troopers issued 984 speeding citations, down from the 1,109 they issued last year, and adult seat belt citations were drastically improved from last year. Only 255 were issued, compared to the 618 issued in 2013.
The Patrol also assisted just over 1,000 motorists over the course of the weekend.
