(KNZA)--Brown County area travelers may be affected when a a bridge replacement project begins next week.
According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, the work is set to start on the K-20 Bridge, located about 4 miles northeast of the east U.S. 73 and K-20 junction in Brown County. That's east of Everest on K-20 between Timber Road on the east and Sunflower Road on the west.
On Monday, crews will begin the setup process for traffic control. On Wednesday, the route, over the bridge, will close down to all eastbound and westbound traffic, and remain off limits through the duration of the project, which is expected to wrap-up in early December.
The work will involve replacement of the existing deck girder span structure with a 32-foot concrete haunched span bridge.
A marked detour route will be provided. Traffic from the west will take K-20 at Everest south to U.S. 73, then east on U.S. 73 to K-7 in Atchison, then north on K-7 to K-20 and conversely for eastbound K-20 traffic.
