(KNZA)--The Prairie Hills USD 113 Board of Education plans to look internally in its search for a new superintendent of schools. The board made that decision during their meeting Monday evening.

Assistant Superintendent Volora Hanzlicek, who is serving as interim superintendent, told the board she is not interested in a permanent position as superintendent.  Hanzlicek recommended posting the vacancy internally since there are five staff members with qualifications to be superintendent.

 The board asked that those interested in the position submit a resume and cover letter to the board office by Friday, May 16th.  The board plans to hold a special meeting next Tuesday evening at 6 to interview potential  superintendent candidates.

The board accepted the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Bill Orth during a special meeting April 30th as part of a settlement agreement. His resignation was  effective May 1st.  

Following an executive session, the board approved a contract with SLK Assets Inc. to purchase the Bern school facilities at a price of $200,000, subject to removal of the district owned property still in the buildings.

SLK is a subsidiary of the parent company of Bern-based Lortscher Agri Service.

Hanzlicek said the district had received two offers on the Bern school.

And the board adopted a resolution that would allow the school district to make a continuous and permanent annual tax levy of up to 8 mills for the district’s capital outlay fund.

The current levy is 5.3 mills.  The resolution, which must be published twice in the Sabetha Herald, is subject to a protest petition.
