(MSC News)--Local Kansas communities are taking part in the National Drug Take Back Day effort, planned for Saturday.
Law enforcement officers statewide will be collecting unused medication for safe disposal of leftover medications.
That includes, locally, one in Atchison County, at the CVS Pharmacy parking lot, in the City of Atchison.
Sheriff Jack Laurie says prescription medications will be accepted from 10 until 2:00.
A Take Back event is also scheduled in Brown County, sponsored by the Sheriff's Department. Marshall County will also take part, with the Sheriff's Department encouraging disposal of the drugs at the County Health Department in Marysville.
Five drop-off points are planned in Leavenworth County, where three will be held in the city of Leavenworth, one in the City of Lansing, and one in Tonganoxie.
Fort Leavenworth will also take part.
Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt says he's pleased to see the local participation in the event, and says a complete list of drop-off locations can be found here.
Officials do send the reminder that prescription drugs only will be accepted, with illegal drugs, or related paraphernalia, not included with Take Back Day.
