(KMZA)--The issue of whether to allow garages as primary structures on property zoned single-family residential will go back to the Seneca Planning Commission.
That comes after a procedural question came up during last week’s City Council meeting.
A motion to accept the Planning Commission’s recommendation to allow garages on R-1 lots as a conditional use was defeated 4-3, with Mayor Joe Mitchell casting a no vote after the council deadlocked.
However, it was pointed out that a two-thirds vote is necessary in order to override the recommendation. City Administrator Matt Rehder was asked to check with City Attorney Martin Mishler on what the vote meant. He said Mishler said the vote was the equivalent of sending the recommendation back to the planning commission for review, which was an option the council could have done. Rehder says the planning commission can either re-submit its original recommendation or amend it and send it back to the council.
Rehder says the Planning Commission will take up the matter at its April 30th meeting.
