(KAIR)--An Atchison couple has been arrested, accused of taking financial advantage of a dependent family member.
According to Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson, officers took 47-year-old Dennis Thummel and his 42-year-old wife, Nancy, into custody Wednesday afternoon on district court warrants charging them with mistreatment of a dependent adult.
Wilson says his department has been investigating the case since last summer when concerned family members brought it to their attention. The Atchison County Attorney's office requested assistance from the Kansas State Attorney General's office, who filed the complaints with the district court to obtain the arrest warrants.
Wilson says the victim, whose name is not being made public, is a 24-year-old female related to the couple.
Investigators allege the crime took place between July 2007 and September 2012.
