( KNZA)--A former Hiawatha boy was killed when the skateboard he was riding was struck by a mini-van.
Killed in the accident Saturday evening in a north Kansas City neighborhood was 8-year-old Jorden Hale. A six-year-old boy riding on the skateboard with Hale was seriously injured, but has since improved.
Kansas City Police says it happened as the boy’s exited a parking lot at an apartment complex. The mini-van driver told officers they suddenly appeared, and she didn’t have time to stop.
Services for Jorden Hale will be held Saturday at 12 noon at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Kansas City.
He's survived by his father, Jeremy Hale of Hiawatha; mother, Leslie Jimenez, of Kansas City; three siblings; and grandparents,“ Chick” and Bertha Hale, of Hiawatha.
