Board Reorganization Set for Mound City School Board

 (KLZA) -- The Mound City Board of Education has scheduled the annual reorganization meeting for April 16th at 7 p-m.  This will follow the April election, which has three school board seats up for election.  Three incumbents and one other person are seeking the seats up for election this year.

The Board accepted the retirement letter submitted by Susan Lentz who has served 30 years as the school nurse for the Mound City, Craig and South Holt School Districts.  Mrs. Lentz will continue serving the South Holt school district two days per week. 

Superintendent Ken Eaton said the Board also approved the salary schedule for the 2014-15 school year. The salary was set at the same rate as the current year with raises to be considered in April.

The Superintendent reported on information from companies working with the district to help define where improvements can be made. Multi purpose space, the concession area, building security including camera’s and a buzz-in system are being looked at along with handicap accessibility, an elevator and improvements in heating and cooling.  Eaton has also visited with financial firms for bond issue scenarios. 

Following an executive session the Board approved probationary contracts for seven district teachers.  Lily Grant and Erin Acton will represent Mound City at the state Future Business Leaders Association competition after winning the district competition.  

Superintendent Eaton also informed the Board the new solar panels have been placed on the Mound City School District buildings. KCP&L needs to hook up modules and the metering system before the solar power can be utilized by the school
