03/13/2014

(KNZA)--The Prairie Hills USD 113 Board of Education has received a list of more than one-million dollars in recommended budget reductions that could be implemented by June 30th, 2015.

Superintendent Dr. Bill Orth discussed with the board this week the list of reductions recommended by the administrative team, which are proposed in two phases.  Included is nearly $560,000 in recommended staff reductions.

Orth said more than $220,000 in budget cuts have already been made.

He says the board has set a special meeting for March 25th at 7 in the evening at the Sabetha Middle School auditorium to further discuss the proposed reductions and to allow the public an opportunity to comment.

In other business, the board decided to proceed with the refinancing of a series of general obligation bonds issued in 2005 for former USD 488.

An analysis shows the district could see a savings of more than $98,000 over the life of the bonds.

The board approved a resolution authorizing the offering for sale of $1.5 million in general obligation refunding bonds.
