(KNZA)--A special meeting of the USD 430 Board of Education ends with the resignation of a high school teacher.
The board Wednesday evening met in executive session for 45 minutes, and it was during the closed door session that the resignation of Elizabeth Crider was unanimously accepted by the six school board members present.
Crider served as the Family and Consumer Science instructor at Horton High School.
The special meeting, announced earlier this week, was held to focus solely on personnel matters related to non-elected personnel.
The reason for Crider's resignation has not been made public, but it comes on the heels of an investigation launched in the district, as confirmed by Superintendent Dr. Steve Davies. “We had some information given to the principal at the high school that there was a little bit too [much] familiarity between a teacher and a student. We have launched an investigation to check into that. We would do that at any time with any type of comment made along the lines that this was,” Davies says. “We will do our part in our investigation and I'm sure law enforcement will be involved and they'll do their part in the investigation.”
Despite speculation, Crider's name has not officially been linked to the ongoing probe launched last week.
However, sources connected to the high school say she has been absent from class since around the time the investigation began.
Davies, when confirming the investigation, stated that the teacher in question had been suspended with pay.
