( KMZA)--No public comment was received Thursday evening during a hearing held by the Nemaha Central Board of Education on the proposal to close the B & B Junior/Senior High School at end of the current school year.
Only two members of the public, besides news media, were on hand for the hearing held in the B & B main gym.
Even though the board has already decided to close the school, Superintendent Darrel Kohlman said the hearing was required by state statue. Kohlman said low enrollment has been cited as the reason for the closure.
Kohlman said the board will consider a resolution at their March 10th meeting to officially close the school, which is the final step in the process.
Beginning in the 2014-2015 school year, B & B students are to attend school in Seneca.
The board has voted to sell the B & B building to Highland Community College. The college plans to open its Western Technical Center at the building in August.
Kohlman says plans are to move all the state trophies—including 31 state championship trophies—currently on display at the school to the Nemaha Central High School in Seneca where they will be displayed in a trophy case that’s being donated.
