(KAIR)--The Boy Scouts Of America has been shaping the lives of young men for over a century, and from all indications, is not going to stop this mission any time soon.
The Kanza District is one of numerous units in the organization. Kanza District Chair Derek Franklin says the district encompasses Brown, Atchison, and Doniphan counties, with over 528 youth. 250 adults, and 36 committee members currently involved. He says the district is one of five districts that are part of the Pony Express Council, which basically keeps things organized within the organization.
Franklin adds that having a boy in scouting can go a long way to shaping him into a future community leader. It gives them skills that they may not be learning in the classroom. Scouts participate in activities such as shooting a BB gun, using a bow and arrow, as well as taking part in pinewood derbies.
To commemorate the 104th birthday of the Boy Scouts, Atchison City Commission issued a proclamation during their meeting earlier this month declaring this week as Boy Scout Anniversary Week in the city.
