(KNZA)--Despite concerns to the contrary, the Horton Municipal Swimming Pool will open for the 2014 season.
That was clarified Tuesday during a special meeting of the Horton City Commission focused on the deteriorating pool's future.
Mayor Tim Lentz addressed the public gathered at City Hall, explaining that the city's insurance provider will allow the pool to be used for one more season, so long as a plan is in place for remedying the problematic, but very popular, attraction.
Lentz revealed that a group of investors, who wish to currently remain anonymous, are expressing interest in helping to see total replacement of the pool as any upgrades to the existing structure will be shortlived.
The attending public voiced their support as possible, but very preliminary, plans for total replacement were discussed.
An option to be explored is to form a non-profit pool committee to take over oversite of the issue and work with the investors to make a new pool a reality.
The current pool opened to the public in 1967.
