(KAIR)--The Atchison County Commission has received several complaints recently over their policy of not making Veterans Day a paid holiday for county employees. Commission Chair Jeff Schuele says commissioners decided to exclude the day from the list of paid holidays during their annual re organizational meeting earlier this month, but it wasn't because they do not support the holiday. He wants to clarify that Atchison County fully supports all veterans, despite some misconceptions.
Schuele says one of the main reasons the commission made the decision is because of the very small amount of time residents have to pay their property taxes, and since the county does not currently have an online method of paying those taxes, have one less day available for them to come in and pay would just not be feasible.
Schuele adds that if any employee wishes to observe the holiday by taking the day off, they are free to do so as long as they have the proper vacation days available.
