Record Winter Electrical Demand for NPPD
(AP) - Nebraska Public Power District says it likely set a generation record to meet customer demand during the subzero weather.
NPPD said in a news release that it generated an estimated 2,256 megawatts of electricity between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Monday. The old winter record was 2,219 megawatts in December 2009.
NPPD spokeswoman Jeanne Schieffer says NPPD couldn't be certain of Monday's record figures because all the data had yet to be assembled.
The utility says an estimated 1 million people depend on it for electricity, either as retail customers or as customers of utilities that buy power from NPPD.
