(KAIR)--Residents living near River Road and the Amelia Earhart Bridge may have heard a small explosion late Thursday night and wondered what was going on. According to authorities, the sound that was heard was that of a truck on fire. Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson says officers responded the call that came in shortly after 11:00. Upon arrival, they found the truck hidden in some brush, fully engulfed in flames, about a half mile south from where the report came in, on the River Road corridor.
Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze, and police quickly determined that the 2002 Dodge truck belonged to 43-year old John Klem, who was not aware that his truck had been stolen. The truck was found about a half mile away from where it had been parked on Klem's property.
