(KAIR)--Kids in Atchison and the surrounding areas are preparing to step up to the line. The Atchison Elks Lodge is preparing it's annual Hoop Shoot free throw event Sunday afternoon at 1:00, aimed at helping local youth have a good time, and perhaps even win something. Lodge Hoop Shoot Director Tina Sawyers says that while they welcome kids to participate, there are some guidelines to follow. Kids must be no younger than eight years old and no older than fourteen years old. Eligibility is determined by the age the contestant will be on April 1st 2014. Parents must provide a birth certificate at the time of registration to confirm the age of the child.
Sawyers states that the event's purpose is just for the kids to have fun. No money is raised and kids who do well, can advance as high as the national competition, while will be held in Springfield Massachusetts near the national basketball hall of fame.
There will not only be basketballs flying into hoops at the event, food will be provided after the event at the Elks lodge. There will be pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, and a cheesy potato casserole provided.
The Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot event will take place on the campus of Benedictine college inside the school's gymnasium. The Benedictine college mens basketball team will be on hand to sign autographs and perhaps provide a tip or two.
