(KNZA)--A former Brown County law enforcement officer is facing felony charges.
31-year-old Dustin Mather, currently of Olathe, was arrested last week on a Brown County warrant for two counts of aggravated battery.
According to court documents, Mather is accused of intentionally causing bodily harm to the same individual twice, first on February 25th and again on March 5th of this year. The victim is identified only by the initials S.M.
A preliminary hearing in the case has been set for January 8th. Hiawatha Attorney Andy Delaney was appointed Monday to represent Mather after the initial attorney appointed recused himself.
The case is being prosecuted by the Kansas Attorney General’s office at the request of the Brown County Attorney's office due to a potential conflict of interest resulting Mather's previous employment. Mather formerly served as an officer with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department, Hiawatha Police Department and Kickapoo Police Department.
He is currently free on $50,000 bond.
