(KNZA)--A contract has been approved with the Missouri man selected to be Hiawatha’s next city administrator.
The city commission Monday evening approved a one year contract with Mike Nichols who will paid an annual salary of $70,000 plus benefits. The contract includes a 90-day probationary period. Mayor Crosby Gernon said Nichols has signed the contract.
Nichols will begin work next week. He comes to Hiawatha from Camdenton, Missouri where he served as assistant city administrator and economic development director since August 2009.
Mayor Gernon, who has served as the acting city administrator for the past four months, said the quality of the city's personnel is impressive, with their expertise simplifying his tasks while serving in that role.
Commissioner Steffen Shamburg praised Gernon as well for stepping up and handling the duties of administrator without any compensation.
