(KAIR)--Not as many deer were killed during the month of November in Missouri, as well as the overall season, and experts are considering several options as to why.
Only 157,253 deer were taken by hunters this year, which is about 23 percent less than last year and 24 percent less than the ten year average.

Biology experts with the Missouri Department of Conservation have several factors in mind for the low haul, with most of them related to overall lower deer population in the state. Population numbers are down mainly due to several outbreaks of hemorrhagic diseases, which does impact deer every year, but are worse when deer congregate around stagnant water, which is most likely around drought years.
The numbers could also be considered lower this year because their was such a high number taken last year.  Weather is also thought to be a factor, but the department thinks that it is less of an influence this year compared to the other factors.
