Transmission Line Approval Challenged

(KMZA)--Property owners affected by the now approved route for a massive transmission line through local areas of Kansas aren't giving up their opposition.

Marshall County farmer Rick Strathman is supporting the filing of a petition by fellow county resident Cynthia Thoreson calling on the Kansas Corporation Commission to reconsider its decision of approval.

Strathman, echoing the issues outlined in the petition, says affected property owners were notified of the planned project late and don't believe their concerns were adequately heard, despite public hearings held on the matter.

Opponents say proper witnesses, or experts, were not allowed to testify, with health, and other related concerns, ignored during the approval process.

The 700 mile Grain Belt Express Clean Line will pass through fourteen Kansas counties, including Marshall, Nemaha, Brown and Doniphan, before ending in Indiana, as it transmits power to states required to purchase renewable energy.

States including Missouri, Illinois and Iowa have not yet granted approval for the project.
