(KMZA)--Two area properties are among ten sites that have been nominated by a board of the Kansas Historical Society to be added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The list announced this week includes a location in Marshall County in the Bremen area where the Oregon and California trials converged containing what’s called the Pacha Ruts. The trail remnants were also used by the Pony Express riders in 1861 as they made their way to the Hollenberg Station in present day Washington County.
In addition, the list includes the George and Virginia Trout House in Wamego, which was completed in 1896. The three-story house, which reflects the Queen Anne style, is located on a prominent corner lot overlooking downtown Wamego.
The list will be forwarded to Office of the Keeper of the National Historic Places in Washington, D.C., for evaluation.
