(KMZA)--An agreement has been reached for the sale of the B & B Junior/Senior High School to Highland Community College.
Nemaha Central Superintendent Darrel Kohlman informed the USD 115 board of education Monday evening that the college has accepted the board’s latest offer of $350,000 for the school, shop building and parking lot. Kohlman presented a contract drafted by an attorney from the Kansas Association of School Boards for the board's review. It will be presented to Highland college officials for their signing. A special board meeting is expected so USD 115 can approve the contract.
HCC plans to use the facility as a regional career and technical education center for the western portion of the college’s nine-county service area in northeast Kansas, and anticipates a fall 2014 opening. HCC has scheduled a luncheon meeting with local community and business leaders for 11:30 Thursday morning at the Nemaha Valley High School to gather their input on programs that will be offered.
The USD 115 board voted in March to close the B & B school at the end of the 2013-2014 school year, and send all students to schools in Seneca.
Nemaha Valley Elementary and Middle School Principal Dr. Amy Beck and Nemaha Valley High School Principal Pat McKernan informed the board Monday night that they have created a team of teachers and staff to ease the transition when B & B students begin attending school in Seneca. They said they plan to hold a “ Nemaha Central” day, where students from B & B will come to the Seneca schools for a day of special speakers and activities.
