Second Harvest Food Bank Prepares For Busy Holiday Season
(KAIR)--The holiday season is in full swing, and millions of people across the country are busy preparing for family dinners and other get togethers. However, it is easy to forget that there are quite a few people out there who do not have the resources needed to hold such gatherings. Local food pantries have anticipated that their services may be needed more in the next few months. The Second Harvest food bank is preparing by holding a special Thanksgiving food drive on November 25th. Director of Marketing for the pantry Aaron Smullin says vouchers for a turkey and other trimmings for a Thanksgiving day meal are already going out to those in need.
Smullin adds that the recent cutbacks in the food stamp program, in conjunction with the holiday season, have lead to more people needing their assistance. However, there has also been an increase in the amount of people who want to help with both food and monetary donations.
The Second Harvest food bank Thanksgiving food drive will take place on the 25th from 1:00-6:00 in the afternoon at the agency's office located at 915 Douglas in St. Joseph.
