(KMZA)--Funeral services will be Thursday in Wamego for Army Sgt. 1st Class Forrest Robertson, killed in action November 3rd while deployed with American military forces in Afghanistan.
The Defense Department said the 35-year-old Westmoreland native died of wounds received when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire in the Logar province. Robertson was assigned to the 6th Squardron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team out of Fort Stewart, Georgia.
Robertson began his military service at the age of 17 immediately following his 1996 graduation from Rock Creek High School.
His foreign deployments included an eight-month tour in Bosnia, two 12-month tours in Iraq, and two deployments in Afghanistan for a total of one year, nine months.
Among his numerous commendations are the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star with Valor, four Bronze Stars, two Meritorious Service medals and five Army Commendation Medals.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 11 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Wamego. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in the Wamego City Cemetery.
Among his survivors are his wife of 12 years, Marcie, and three daughters, of Hinesville, Georgia, along with his parents, Dody and Charles Berg, of Westmoreland, and three siblings.
