(KTNC) - Wednesday is National Weatherization Day.
Southeast Nebraska Community Action has been participating in the Nebraska State Energy Office’s Weatherization Program since it was implemented in 1979. In that time, the Energy Office says nearly $124 million has been spent to make energy improvements in approximately 65,000 low-income homes in the state.
The Energy Office also says that energy savings resulting from the improvements typically last 20 years or longer. They estimate that the energy savings over the last 30 years amount to more than $101 million, with about $4.4 million in new savings each year.
Since 2009, SENCA has weatherized 396 homes in its eight county service territory, which includes Cass, Douglas, Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, Richardson, and Sarpy Counties.
Households with incomes up to 200-percent of poverty may qualify for weatherization services. That means a family of four with income up to $47,100 could qualify for the program, including an energy audit, insulation, weather-stripping, caulking, replacing broken glass, furnace inspection, new windows, and new doors.
For more information about SENCA’s weatherization services, contact Program Manager Anita Kimpston at 402-862-2411, or visit SENCA’s website, www.senca.org.
