(KAIR)--The fate of the Atchison County Lake was at the forefront Tuesday afternoon, as Atchison county commission met to gather input from the public to help them decide what to do with the property.
Commission Chairman Jeff Schuele says that an offer to buy the lake came as a complete surprise to the county.
Atchison County residents did have a chance to offer their opinions on the lake, but the commission also sought input from an outside source. They asked for input from the Kansas Association of Counties, and what they found out is that it is not common for most counties in Kansas to have a lake.
Schuele says that the commission is in no way in a hurry to move forward on this, and another public hearing will be set at a later date. The date of that meeting will be given far in advance, to give people a chance to plan to attend.
