Civilian Morale Affected By Shutdown

(KAIR)--The two week old government shutdown has ended, but that does not mean that it has not had some pretty adverse effects on people. Both soldiers and civilians working with them had to make some adjustments after leaders in Washington failed to reach an agreement to keep the federal government open on September 30th. Bruce Reider is a civilian instructor at Fort Leavenworth, and he says that the shutdown has effected mainly the moral of both himself and his coworkers, but also worker's financial situations.

Reider says that there are some, himself included, that wonder if this will be a recurring event. They went through a sequester period earlier this summer, and with the recent vote only extending the deadline until January, Reider is worried that they may have to go through this process again soon.

Two late day votes by the House and Senate Wednesday ended the 16 day shutdown. Federal workers have been ordered to return to work, and government offices have started to reopen.
