(KTNC) - Democratic candidate for governor Annette Dubas made a campaign swing through southeast Nebraska Wednesday – including a stop in Falls City.
Dubas is a state senator from Fullerton. She says her political experience, as a Democratic State Senator from a largely Republican district, is an asset for her as she campaigns for Governor.
Dubas says she hears a lot of frustration from people about property taxes as she travels the state. While that is largely a local issue, Dubas says it’s important for the state to work with local communities to provide essential services that people expect.
She says she’s looking forward to the recommendations from the Tax Modernization Commission that’s meeting around the state. Any changes to the tax code, she says, should be made in a careful and deliberate manner.
Dubas says she’s also looking forward to recommendations that come from the Education Committee, which is studying how to best fund K-12 education in the state. She says it’s important – and a constitutional requirement – for the state to provide the needed financial resources to school districts.
Dubas has represented the 34th Legislative District in the Unicameral for the past seven years. She is one of two Democrats, along with former University of Nebraska Regent Chuck Hassebrook, running to succeed Dave Heineman as governor in 2014. Five Republicans are seeking their party’s nomination.
