(KAIR)--The impending demolition of the former U.S. 59 Amelia Earhart Memorial bridge is expected to cause some minor traffic delays for motorists who use the bridge for their morning commute. According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, the new bridge will be closed down completely at 8:00 on each of the blast mornings, and will reopen approximately one hour to a hour and a half after the demolition takes place.
In addition, both eastbound and westbound portions of the new bridge will be reduced to just one lane in each direction between 7:00AM and 6:00PM for demolition prep work starting Tuesday morning and running through Thursday. Drivers are encouraged to obey all signs and markings as they make their way over the bridge
The first blast is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday morning at 9:00, with the two subsequent blasts yet to be determined. We will keep you up to date the the latest information as it becomes available.
