(KNZA)--Whiting could become the second Jackson County community to allow Sunday beer sales.
The City Council last month approved an ordinance allowing for the sale of cereal malt beverages between noon and 8 p.m. on Sundays.
The ordinance was published Monday and will take effect 61 days after its publication unless a valid protest petition is filed. If a valid petition is filed a public vote would be required.
Mayetta previously approved the sale of cereal malt beverages on Sundays.
Currently, only one business in Whiting-- C &D’s Food Mart-- sells cereal malt beverages with a 3.2 percent alcohol content.
