Second Man Sentenced in Maryville Death
(AP) - A second suspect in last year's beating death of a Northwest Missouri State University student has been sentenced to six years in prison.
KQTV reports the sentence imposed on 32-year-old Kevin Mooney was the same one given earlier to his co-defendant, 24-year-old Tony Overlin.
The two Bethany men had been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 21-year-old Tomarken Smith. But both pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Smith, of St. Louis, was beaten during an altercation outside a Maryville bar in September 2012. He was a senior majoring in pre-professional studies, with a minor in coaching.
