Groups Allowed to Intervene in Transmission Line Case
09/25/2013

(MSC News )---The Kansas Corporation Commission has agreed to allow seven groups or individuals to intervene in the case seeking approval of the construction of the Grain Belt Express Clean Line that would cross through several local counties.

The Topeka Capital Journal reports the KCC took the action at its meeting Tuesday, but decided that people seeking to speak at an October hearing must have a specific interest that is affected by the case and clarify what they want the agency to do.

Clean Line Energy is seeking approval of the construction of a high voltage transmission line through 19 counties in Kansas---including Marshall, Nemaha, Brown and Doniphan.  The line would transmit energy from wind farms in southwest Kansas to the eastern United States.

Among those filing petitions to intervene in the case are the Marshall County Commission, Nemaha-Marshall Electric Cooperative, a local group called Coalition for Landowners, the Environment and Natural Resources, and several individual landowners.

The KCC is to make a decision on the case by November 17th.
