(KMZA)-- The list of mascot suggestions for the new school that combines Nemaha Valley and B&B next school year has been narrowed.
Superintendent Darrel Kohlman says a committee, consisting of students and staff from Nemaha Valley and B&B, meet Tuesday and reduced the number of mascot suggestions down to five from the more than 50 received.
The final five include Jaguars, Outlaws, Storm, Thunder and Titans.
They will now be submitted to the board of education at their October meeting. The board will decide if they want to narrow the selections down further, or leave all five for a final vote by 6th through 11th grade students at B &B and Nemaha Valley Schools along with 8th grade students at the Sts. Peter and Paul School.
Last month, the colors of purple and blue were chosen as the school colors starting in the 2014-2015 school year. The board also decided that the names of the buildings starting next school year will be Nemaha Central Elementary/Middle School and Nemaha Central High School.
The board earlier this year voted to close the B & B Junior-Senior High School at the end of the 2013-2014 school year.
