(KTNC) - The Auburn School Board approved the budget for the 2013-2014 Fiscal Year following a public hearing Monday night.
Superintendent Kevin Reiman says the total budget of $9.53 million is an increase of just over two-percent from last year. The total increase is $198,806, with $134,000 of that associated with employee costs such as salary and benefits.
A public hearing on the final tax request was not held as planned. Reiman says a meeting notice for the tax request hearing was not printed in the newspaper before this week’s meeting.
In other business this week, the Auburn School Board voted to renew the district’s insurance and workman’s comp with Harry Koch at a total cost of $119,336, an increase of approximately $3,000. Reiman says the increase is much less than anticipated. They had expected an eight to nine percent increase, but Reiman says it was lower, due toa good claims history and a reduction in workmen's comp insurance.
The board approved the purchase of 40 new iMac computers to replace computers at the Middle School and High School.
The Auburn School Board also reached agreement on a memorandum of understanding with the committee seeking to build a community performing arts center on school property. Reiman says the agreement stipulates that the performing arts center would be built connected to the north side of the High School building.
The Auburn School Board will hold a special meeting at 5:30 Monday evening. The board will hold a hearing on the final tax request and then vote to approve the tax request following the hearing. Reiman anticipates that will be the only item on the agenda for the special meeting.
