(KNZA)-- Highland Community College officials are seeking the improvement of 230th Road, which leads to the college-owned Klinefelter Farm, east of Hiawatha.
College representatives met with the Brown County Commission Monday to request that the county assume ownship and maintenance responsibility of the graveled road. In addition, they said they would like to see the road hard surfaced, east of Mulberry Road..
College President David Reist says increased traffic to the Klinefelter Farm has resulted in a deterioration of the road.
Farm manager Wendell Ganstrom says Hiawatha Township has made a great effort to improve the road, but has limited funds.
Options were discussed for improving and maintaining the road as a joint venture.
County Commissioner Steve Roberts said he will contact Hiawatha Township on the viability of the county maintaining the road.
Commissioner Warren Ploeger said he's not interested in having the county take over any more miles of roadway, unless there is a road swap.
