(KLZA) Motorists traveling to and from Husker football games at Memorial Stadium can expect to see an increased Nebraska State Patrol presence.
Troopers and Communication Specialists with the Nebraska State Patrol Headquarters Troop-Lincoln will be working overtime hours during Husker home games, thanks in part to a $12,800 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOHS).
The Nebraska Aviation Support Division will also be in the air assisting troopers with pilots providing traffic reports both before and after the games.
Colonel David Sankey, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol said “Game days mean added traffic volume and the potential for slowdowns. Putting extra troopers on the road will allow us to do our best to help ensure football fans get to and from the games safely.”
Heavy traffic can mean congestion and delays. The Nebraska State Patrol reminds motorists to give themselves plenty of time to reach their destination, obey the posted speed limit, always wear their seat belt and never drive impaired or distracted.
I-80 widening projects between Omaha and Lincoln continue, as do numerous other highway improvement projects which may alter routes to and from Memorial Stadium. Motorists wanting to check their route can utilize 511, Nebraska’s Advanced Traveler Information system at www.511.nebraska.gov , or by dialing 511 (800-906-9069) from any landline or cellular phone.
Anyone who observes a reckless or impaired driver, or anyone in need of non-emergency roadside assistance should call the NSP Highway Helpline when safe to do so at *55 from their cellular phone or 1-800-525-5555 from any landline.
