(KNZA)--Emergency crews, including Brown County Emergency Preparedness were visible in Horton Friday afternoon after the strong odor of chlorine was detected.
Apparently that happened after Kansas Gas crews were making reapairs to a deep well ground bed, a device that uses clorine gas to keep the gas lines from corroding. While the crews were making the repairs, the device released the clorine gas, which caused minor injuries to several of the crew members. They were treated at the scene for their injuries.
The leak occured near 13th and 4th Avenue West in Horton. Kansas Gas Hazmat crews were dispatched from Kansas City to clean up the scene where the leak occured.
Horton Police alerted nearby residents of the situation, but it did not require voluntary evacuations.
Also responding to the scene was the Horton Fire Department and Horton EMS.
