(KLZA) The July unemployment rate in Nebraska rose a tenth of a percent to 4.2 percent. The unemployment rate in nearly all of the counties making up extreme Southeast Nebraska also increased, the exception being Otoe County.
Gage County had a large increase in unemployment in July from 4.3 percent to 6.3 percent.
Nemaha County Nebraska has the second highest unemployment rate in the state a 7.7 percent which was an increase of 8-tenths of a percent from June. Richardson County has the fifth highest rate in the state at 6.1 percent. The increase for the month was just a tenth of a percent.
Johnson County has an unemployment rate of 5 percent, up 3-tenths; Pawnee County increased 3-tenths to 4 percent. In Otoe County the July unemployment rate dipped 2-tenths to 4.6 percent.
Nationally the July unemployment rate was down two-tenths to 7.4 percent.
Nebraska Department of Labor Commissioner Cathy Lang says the higher unemployment rate in the state is not necessarily bad news, noting seasonal factors contributed to some of the increase.
Commissioner Lang said the 3-percent growth in durable goods manufacturing over the last year is also a good sign.
