(KMZA)--The Nemaha Central Board of Education has adopted a 2013-2014 budget of $14 million.
That came following a hearing this week which drew no public comment.
The entire mill levy for USD 115 patrons will be 31.95 mills, up .03 mills from last year’s levy. The slight mill levy increase was attributed to a decrease in the district’s assessed valuation.
Former USD 442 patrons will remain solely responsible for the bond and interest levy required to pay off the debt for the Nemaha Valley Elementary and Middle School. The mill levy will remain the same at 7 mills.
In other business, a discussion was held regarding the current practice of providing two after-activity practice bus routes if eight or more students per route sign up to ride. If less than eight students sign up, the route is not run.
During discussion, board members requested that Superintendent Darrel Kohlman provide data for 2012-13 including the cost, miles driven and the number of times the route was run. The board will use this data when they revisit the issue next school year. It was the consensus to follow the past practice for the current year.
